Leadership Team

Karen Anuscavage

VP, Human Resources

Karen Anuscavage joined Millers as vice president of human resources in early 2015 where her focus is on organizational design, training and development, recruiting and selection, performance management, employee relations, health and safety, and department leadership and oversight. Prior to joining Millers, Karen served in senior management for human resources at Kegel’s Produce, and human resources relationship management specialist at Westfield Insurance. Karen graduated with high honors from Albright College and has a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology and organizational behavior.

In the community, Karen is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management, served on the board of Lancaster Ice Club and coached high school competitive cheerleading. She and her husband have two children.

Team - Joe Begyn

Joe Begyn, AVP

VP, Underwriting & Risk Services

Joe Begyn joins our Leadership Team as Assistant Vice President of Underwriting and Risk Services with over 15 years of experience. Joe will share accountability for underwriting standards, profitability, and people development in partnership with Don Manley, VP of Underwriting and Risk Services.

Begyn’s career began at Liberty Mutual Group as a senior underwriter in the commercial lines department underwriting multi-lines of coverage including property, general liability, workers’ comp, auto, inland marine and more. He made the move to Westfield Insurance in 2011 where he started as a middle market field manager and was promoted to leadership in 2014. Jeff received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder, graduating magna cum laude. Additionally, he earned a master’s of business administration in finance and accounting at Mount Saint Mary’s University from which he graduated with honors. Jeff currently holds a Certified Treasury Professional designation.

Jeff has served on the boards of Hanover Day Nursery, Inc. and Hanover Capital Management, Inc. He is a Bridges Society Member of the United Way of the Capital Region. Jeff and his wife, Lisa, have two children.

Scott Billett

Vice President, Operations

Scott has been with the Millers Mutual since January 2002. He started his career with Millers in the Claims department where he spent the next eight years as a claims adjuster before transferring to the underwriting department. Over the course of the next five years, Scott honed his skills as an underwriter and followed his passion with enthusiasm as he was promoted to underwriting leader in February 2015.

Scott is an eager life-long learner of the insurance industry. He pursued his CPCU designation and successfully attained the designation in 2014. In 2017, Scott pursued his Master of Science in Insurance Management through Boston University and completed that program in September 2018.

Scott’s background in the business gives him an overall advantage moving into his new role where he will lead Support Services, Compliance, Product Development and Pricing.

Team - Sam Hess

Sam Hess

VP & Chief Information Officer

Sam came to Millers Mutual in May of 2016. He started his career with Millers as a Senior Programmer/Analyst. Over the course of the next two years, Sam honed his skills as an IT professional and followed his passion for serving people as he was promoted to Core Applications Development Leader in 2018.

Hess’ technical skills and passion for leading gives him an overall advantage in his role as Chief Information Officer. As CIO, Sam partners with Millers’ business units to identify, develop, and implement information technology capabilities that enable the company’s strategic direction, support day-to-day business operations, position Millers favorably with all organizational stakeholders and agencies, and function in accordance with applicable regulations.

Prior to Millers Mutual, Hess worked for Millville Mutual as an IT Support/Technology Developer for five years and before that, he was an IT Consultant for three years sharpening his skills as an IT professional. He graduated from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems.

Sam currently resides in Berwick, Pennsylvania with his wife Stephanie and their three children.

Timothy Kirk

VP, Claims

Timothy Kirk joined Millers as the vice president of claims in the summer of 2015. Prior to joining Millers, Tim served as the claims manager at Starr Companies in Philadelphia where he was responsible for management and oversight of all claims arising from the newly created Transportation Profit Center. Tim began his career as a field claim specialist in New York City. He also held the Claim Vice President position with both Lincoln General Insurance and Crum & Forster.

Tim attended Brooklyn College and the University of New Hampshire and also completed multiple segments toward the CPCU designation at the College of Insurance in New York City. Tim is a licensed Pennsylvania life, Health & Annuity Producer.

Lisa Kozlowski

VP of Marketing & Customer Experience

Lisa Kozlowski joined Millers as vice president of marketing and customer experience in Spring 2018 where her focus is leveraging the voice of the customer to enable strategic alignment, decision making, resource prioritization and facilitate operational effectiveness and efficiency. Lisa has a passion for strategic planning, customer experience, leadership and market insight. Prior to joining Millers, Lisa worked for Westfield Insurance where she designed and launched the company’s first corporate marketing research function. At Westfield, she led an experienced, high-performing team of analysts and consultants responsible for designing and executing research studies supporting enterprise initiatives and investments. Lisa started her professional insurance research career with Progressive Insurance where she led agency facing research, as well as the initial research for the “pay as you drive” program.
Lisa earned her master's degree in Consumer/Industrial research psychology, a graduate program at Cleveland State University that has prepared her with specialized training in professional research design/ statistical analysis, implementation and analysis.

Don Manley joined Millers as vice president of underwriting in 2014. Prior to joining Millers, Don served as executive and master underwriter at Westfield Insurance, where he was responsible for developing and implementing underwriting strategy to ensure the highest levels of product quality, pricing integrity, operating efficiency and profitability. He also has experience managing the ratemaking process, training and mentoring underwriting staff and directing all of the operational activities related to underwriting.

Don has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Bloomsburg University. He also holds numerous professional designations, including CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), AFIS (Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist), AU (Associate in Underwriting) and a Certificate in General Insurance.

Team - Jonah Mull

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Jonah Mull serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Millers Mutual with over 20 years of experience in the Insurance Industry. He joined Millers in 2014 as an Underwriting Leader responsible for the growth, profit, and development of the Underwriting Teams. Jonah quickly shifted into the role of Vice President of Operations in 2017, where he focused on overseeing pricing, product development, filing/rates/rules, quality assurance and policy services.

Jonah started his career as a National Programs Underwriter at Smith Bell & Thompson, Inc. He then went on to work at Westfield Group for over 11 years in underwriting and leadership.

Jonah currently sits on the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Board of Directors. He holds a degree in Insurance and Risk Management from the Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business. He also completed The Institutes/Darden School of Business Executive Education Program.

Scott Orndorff, CPCU

President & CEO

Scott Orndorff, named president and CEO of Millers Mutual in 2014, draws upon decades of experience on both the carrier and agency sides of the insurance business.
During his career, Scott has held various senior level positions, including senior executive with Westfield Insurance, where he provided strategic and operational leadership for a specialty division focused on workers compensation, agribusiness and transportation. Prior to that, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Old Guard Insurance in central Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for all aspects of the insurance operation including underwriting, claims, risk control, information systems, marketing and customer service.

Scott also has experience running claims operations for both national and regional insurance carriers, and he has worked for a reinsurer, providing coverage for mutual companies throughout the U.S. Most recently, Scott worked for a large insurance agency developing specialty programs and alternative risk transfer mechanisms.
In addition to receiving his bachelor’s degree at Mansfield University, Scott earned a master of management degree from Penn State University and he completed an executive program in competition and strategy at Harvard Business School. He also has his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation.

An active community member, Scott has served on the boards of the Lititz recCenter, Manheim Township Foundation and Highland Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Sandra, have three children.

Jeffrey Pratt

Chief Financial Officer

Jeffrey Pratt joined Millers as vice president, chief financial officer in 2015 and draws upon decades of experience in the insurance and banking industries. Prior to joining Millers, Jeff served in various financial division positions at Penn National Insurance. Most recently, he was the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis where in addition to corporate planning as well as financial and strategic analysis he had oversight and responsibility for accounts payable, billing services, cash management, expense budgeting and payroll processing. Jeff started his career at what is now M&T Bank. While with the bank, he progressed through various positions in both the retail and commercial divisions of the bank within the South Central Pennsylvania and Baltimore, Maryland markets.
Jeff received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder, graduating magna cum laude. Additionally, he earned a master’s of business administration in finance and accounting at Mount Saint Mary’s University from which he graduated with honors. Jeff currently holds a Certified Treasury Professional designation.
